This November, Moana Jr. was brought to life through the amazing performance of West Side Christian’s 8th grade class. This long-standing tradition of middle schoolers taking to the stage to present a winter show has always been a bright spot in the year. Fan favorite songs included “Shiny,” “How Far I’ll Go,” and “You’re Welcome.” In this engaging show, these students showed their parents, families, friends, and fellow students their talent through their characters of Moana, Maui, village people, fisherman, and ancestors. The resounding messages of bravery in the face of danger as well as discovering who you are was revealed in this coming-of-age story.
The students also gained new skills by learning how to perform choreographed dances, act animatedly, and project their singing voices. One 8th grader, Luke Mersman, played the part of a fisherman and said his favorite part of the show was learning the choreography. For Anika Kaffman, another middle school student, this was her first performance and she played the part of Moana. She learned “that it takes a big team to put on the show” and that “everyone is important to make it flow well”. Congratulations to all the amazing 8th grade students who made this performance a great success!

Alisha Myers, one of the talented directors, shared “the class did a tremendous job singing, dancing, and telling the story of Moana…We commend the 8th grade class on a job well done and are grateful for this experience of class growing and bonding.”
Not only were the students a big part of this show, but the parent volunteers also had a significant role. They had a helping hand in creating costumes, doing make-up, building the set, running concessions, and overall being the best cheerleaders WSCS could ask for! We are so thankful for all the parents who helped this event run so smoothly!
