Recently, my students in 7th grade English completed a writing assignment entitled “This is ___________”. It was an assignment drawn from a Kelly Gallagher seminar I attended last year and based upon writing found on the Huffington Post.
As a third grade teacher, the most common questions that come from parents are about boys and reading. Parents are concerned because their boys do not want to read, do not like to read, or don’t read the “right” books.
One of the greatest things you can do as a parent is encourage your child to be wild. Wild? You might think I’m crazy. As parents (and especially after the holidays) we try to strike a parenting balance: sugary treats with healthy eating, fun and games with tucking our kids in on time, as the cold weather keeps us inside, we try to make sure our kids are getting their wiggles out in healthy ways.
