Beyond Belief: Serve

The main reason I love coaching (and teaching for that matter) is the relationships I get to form with the kids; it’s my favorite thing about it. Don’t get me wrong; I love sports too! But I really love the relationship-building opportunities they provide, and coaching only furthers this because of the extra time spent together and the bond that is formed as a team.

Be  Here Now: A Teacher's Reflection on the Summer to School Transition

Summer is a wonderful break. My family was able to spend tons of time together this summer and enjoyed various excursions that are tough to pull off during the school year. We spent some time at a cottage, did some camping (on the hottest days of the summer as usual), and even spent some time on Mackinac Island. My boys (ages 7 and 5) and I rocked the Public Museum on several occasions. It was wonderful to spend time together.

Before joining the staff at West Side Christian School in the fall of 2014, I taught math and science at Western Michigan Christian High School (WMC). It was at WMC that I was first introduced to the flipped classroom model, which emphasizes using class time for teacher interaction and problem solving and introducing new concepts and ideas via pre-recorded teacher videos that students could watch at home.
